Once, when I was a little girl, I asked my mother if it was alright to pray for someone to die. My mother, of course, was horrified, because I was like, six or seven, and clearly the Bad Seed. She asked what I meant. I clarified that I wanted to know if it was bad to want Castro to die. My mother told me on no uncertain terms that it was absolutely not alright to pray for something like that.

Castro has given up power, for real this time. And even though I know things aren't over- and are probably far from it- I couldn't help but get an actual physical thrill at the announcement.

I don't know why your mother was at all surprised by you playing nazees. :P

That being said, I immediately thought of you when someone on my flist said something about him resigning last night.

I can't believe I was up until 3:30 and I heard nothing. Dammit.

Shut up about the nazzees!

I definitely let out a loud cheer and thought of you. :)

It's exciting! :)

I feel like I've always heard that Raúl is, like, worse. Is that something that you've heard, too?

Things definitely are not over. But I'm definitely happy, too. At least that chapter is over.

Yeah, Raul is supposed to be a total bastard, which is... not comforting. But, on the plus side, he doesn't have the cult of personality that Fidel does.

You and [livejournal.com profile] snappleson are so cute with your Cuba icons!

Definitely worth celebrating, no matter what the future might hold. <3

We're Cuban girls!

I'm not a Cuban girl, so I have no Cuba icons. But I have a Union Jack. So you can have that as well. :D

I too was sending good thoughts your way when I saw this news... definitely should be an interesting few months/.years. Oh well, he has to die eventually, I'm sure.

here's a bad Soviet joke for you, btw, from my Russian class this morning -- just substitute Castro for Lenin :D:

In honour of the hundredth anniversary of Lenin's birth, commemorative products appeared in Soviet Union stores: "Uncle Lenin's Ashes" powder, "Lenin -- All Over" soap, and a three-person bed -- "because Uncle Lenin is always with us."

It seemed somewhat timely. ;-)

LOL, that joke is pretty funny.

He totally doesn't have to die. The damned can do that.

They give us a Soviet joke every week. It's kind of awesome.

Fidel, however, is not, and may die whenever he wants.

I also thought of ya when I heard about this. :) Although I have a feeling the 'election' coming up will havee a ballot like this: Who should be the next prez of Cuba? a)Raul Castro b)Fidel's brother, or c) whatever Fidel wants. Hmmm.

I seriously thought Castro would die before he resigned. Maybe things can change.

I fear that's how the elections will be, too. But I also thought he'd die in office, so what do I know!

(I think he's dead now. I also feel like a crazy conspiracy theorist when I think that, like I should be typing in the dark about JFK's assassination.)
