Day 03 → Your favorite television program
So, the way I felt as this day of this meme approached is best explained in a quote from Jessie Spano: "I'm so excited! I'm so excited! I'm so... so... scaaaaared." Because it meant I had to choose my TV show, and that would've always been an easy answer before, but NOW IT IS NOT. So I've been thinking about this since before I even started the meme and now... now I'm ready.
The current winner for my favorite TV show is... Battlestar Galactica.

Oh, I know. What the frak, you might ask! What of Alias! And I'll have to say... it had a good run? Alias had my imagination completely from immediately after my sixteenth birthday until I was twenty-one, and that's a damn long time to be 100% invested in one fandom, especially since it's been over for four years. And it's not that I don't love it anymore! I still get excited when it's mentioned and I love the actors on it and I'll still get all emotionally vehement if you mention how they treated Nadia in Season Five and ragey if you talk about any of the many, many Hong Kongs.

I still love you, bb!
But right now my favorite thing is BSG. Here's why!

Perhaps you would like some music to go along with your enjoyment. Don't worry, that's been taken care of!
ALSO THE CAST IS FUN AND ADORABLE:

Maybe some more music will convince you?
Or maybe the second best pairing on the show?

Perhaps FatLee can convince you.

But what about the other things! Like, for example:

In suppose you would like some words, too. Very well: Battlestar Galactica is an amazing program. On a superficial level, it has everything you could possibly ask for: the occasional breathtakingly gorgeous scene, music that makes emotion swell in your throat, an astonishingly pretty cast (including scenes that involve multiple Tricia Helfers. That alone is worth the price of admission.) To go a bit deeper, the acting in this show is... really beyond measure. Other shows (like Alias) have a few extremely fantastic performances (Victor Garber, Lena Olin) and a lot of very good ones (everyone else!) BSG? Every. Single. Person. No one in that show is a mediocre actor, or an okay actor, they are all spectacular. Sure, sometimes the plots make me want to bash my head in (LIAM WTF) and there are some inconsistencies (Daniel what Daniel?) and sometimes people are fascists or unnecessarily emo or sexhounds, but generally the plots are well-written and amazing. The arcs on this show are some of the best things I've ever watched- yes, I am looking at you, Mutiny, Pegasus and New Caprica! Issues are never just black and white, but subtle variances of grey, and I, for one, have changed my opinions completely from the first time I watched, from wanting all the Cylons to be eradicated in a fiery end to realizing that you really... can't do that and keep the moral high ground. I've watched people make horrifying decisions and thought about how I would react myself, and not in a selfish way, but in a real "holy god, how can someone even function after making calls like that?" (Answer: becoming a razor.) It's a multifaceted, layered, complex show and I am so glad that I watch it.
In Conclusion:

Almost every single picspam on here was culled from tumblr, therefore not mine. If you made it, please let me know! You're awesome.
So that's embarrassingly long winded.

1. The shot of Lucy Lawless. D'Anna so often gets forgotten in expressions of BSG adulation, and it gave me a pleasant jolt to see her! :-D
2. The photo of Helfer and Callis directly underneath is, I think, my fave pic of the 2 actors together.
3. That Tigh picspam is AMAZING.
4. Your multiple photos of Kara and Lee being playful together, which is when I love them the most (and helps explain why many people want them to be friends more than anything else).
5. "BSG? Every. Single. Person. No one in that show is a mediocre actor, or an okay actor, they are all spectacular." Isn't that just baffling, though? The same can be said about Lost, at least in Season 1. I have to wonder how this can be possible, how every individual in a large ensemble cast (OK, excepting maybe Park) can blow you away with their consistently flawless and moving performances. Who can we thank? The casting director? Or the director of the show? How does it happen, and on the flip side, why doesn't it happen more often in TV shows? What's the key?

Holy crap. I didn't realize this was on the DVD...got to go watch the whole thing!
They all must really love Bear. Incidentally, why is his name Bear?

And I don't actually know! Because he's awesome, I'd wager.

2. I just saw that picture for the first time like, last week and I was like, this is the greatest thing ever. I didn't include so many adorable pictures of them, because... well, it would've gotten even more out of control.
3. I LOVE THE TIGHS!!!! If I didn't love Gaius/Six so much they'd be absolutely #1 in my heart.
3. Kara and Lee being BFFs is my favorite setting for them. The lover thing never worked out so well for them.
5. ... You're right about Grace Park, but I felt kind of mean singling her out. Like, and noneforGretchenWieners mean. And I think we should thank everyone.
All shows can't have the awesomeness seen here because not every actor is so amazing. You're lucky if you get like, one truly fantastic actor per show, is my way of thinking. This show just happened to hit the jackpot.

You know, this question has continued to bother me. I've always felt like it has to do with the director more than anything else, because you just can't count on a bunch of actors to have that continuous sort of quality, to work together that well, no matter how good they are.
Did you watch that Katee Sackhoff interview at the Bagdad theatre in Oregon? At one point she says that BSG was the most collaborative show she had ever been on, and that the director gave the actors incredible freedom with their characters. I wonder if that is the clincher-- you hire a bunch of brilliant actors, but then you need a director who knows how to collaborate with them. I would guess that there was a lot of that going on in Lost (I would really like to find out if that's so, now).
Speaking of that interview... did you get to the EJO toilet story????
Oh and PS: Not to pick on Grace Park, I've always kind of felt that Jamie and Tahmoh--especially Tahmoh--were kind of weak, too. What do you think?

And I'm sure the director had a lot to do with it- fully embracing your character and having a say in their development must be wonderful for an actor.
I think that both Bamber and Tahmoh weren't necessarily the strongest actors, but- and this goes right back to picking on Grace and I feel really guilty!- I never looked at them and thought, er... what the heck is he feeling? Because I could tell, even if they weren't speaking, because they could both emote. Even when Helo was standing there, all tall and morally indignant, he didn't have to necessarily say I AM MORALLY INDIGNANT because his posture and his expression said so. Bamber too- when Papadama told him Kara was married, it was all O MY AGONY IT IS TOO MUCH FOR ME TO BEAR- and not in a comical way, even though it's Lee.

You're totally right about the boys, Jamie especially. I forgot about that scene in UB-- my god, his face there just KILLS me. His performance is spot on; he's Katee-esque in his expressiveness. There are plenty of times when he delivers wonderful performances; I am totally underrating him. Sadly, there are times when he's kind of wooden too. But I wonder if that isn't because his character is pretty simple, especially when he's playing opposite Starbuck.
As for Tahmoh, his character is really the simplest of all, so that's not in his favor. But sometimes I feel like scrunchy-face is his default expression for any emotion, lol. Certainly, however--and we're coming back to it now-- he's not as bad as Park. She really kind of pisses me off, because not only is her acting poor, she's also off-putting a lot of the time. I get annoyed with her reactions. But we're not here to bash the gorgeous Ms. Park, so let me end my saying look! Jamie Bamber is adorable! And I take back anything bad I said. :-D
And look at cute little Fat Lee!
