So, a few days ago (as in, Saturday,) I finally got a laptop. A cute little HP with all sorts of things that are supposed to be really good (but I really wouldn't know) and I love it except for the fact that it has no dial-up. The sticker at the store said $899, which we paid, as well as paying another $99 for... security stuff.... and like, $300 for the insurance thinger. My mother was none too thrilled, but we bought it, and went home.

So, yesterday, Sunday, is the day that all the stores send out circulars. Circulars from places like Best Buy and Circuit City. I got my computer from Best Buy, because (A) We've never gotten computers that weren't Dells or Gateways and (B) Because Amelia got the same computer as me from Best Buy and told us about their awesome policy involving damages which, quite frankly, I am terrified of.

So, my dad, who never price compares and who never takes it upon himself to be concerned about bargains and didn't help Mom and I with the whole computer thing, spent all morning finding my same laptop in different stores for better prices, the most egregious being $699 at Circuit City.

So, today he went and harassed them at Best Buy, and since my dad has bought a lot of stuff from there over the years, they gave him the difference, with which he bought me Microsoft Office (since our copy, which we got with the Gateway, and we PAID FOR, THANKS, only works on Gateway. Bastards.)

So now my mom isn't so mad at me about my poor little laptop, and I have Microsoft Office installed aaaaaand my cute little cordless mouse is so much fun!

In other news, my ficathon fic has stalled at 3133 words, and yes, I'm proud of the length, but now that my people that I was supposed to bring back from the dead have been returned to Sydney, I've stalled. Completely. Because now not only do I need dialogue, I need emotional dialogue. I can't do it, I say!

And it really needs to get done soon, because Nica needs to beta it, and I really should have it done before I leave on Thursday, and then I need to make sure that I can actually get it to the internet by the prescribed date, or if I'm going to have to leave it with Monica or someone to post in my stead, since my grandmother's house doesn't even have a PHONE LINE anymore. Sweet baby jesus.

And now comes the poll for all of you playing at home to help me name my laptop!

Best Buy is 100% worth it for their insurance policies. I bought one for my iPod, which had to be sent in to them on Saturday, and it was no hassle, just "give us the iPod and we'll give it back to you, fixed, in two weeks." Which, two weeks. Ugh. But apparently that's an Apple thing.

Anyway, the point of this is that I love Best Buy lots, and will never buy electronics anywhere else.

One of my friends has always raved about their policies, and since we were totally out of our depths buying our first laptop, my mom and I went with another friend's advice on buying it. And I'm pretty confident now. I'm glad you've been so satisfied!

(Two weeks without an iPod! Perish the thought.)

So here's my 2 cents...

Octavia is what I would name it if I were you. It's got meaning to you. I did vote for Ingrid because, personally, I think it's prettier. But, Octavia has meaning. I don't happen to think that the names of my electronic devices are necessarily pretty names. But they have meaning. And then you'll love the name even more because you get used to it and stuff.
