Unbearable Lightness.
Mar. 10th, 2005 07:50 pmThe Unbearable Lightness
There was a panic in her blood.
It quaked at first, stirring, before charging through her veins, making her heart pound. Her blood raced, spurring on her motions, slamming her foot down on the gas.
There is a voice, somewhere, in her head, and it's chanting no no no because being left is the story of her life, but thinking this is senseless because how can you be left when you've never had anything, not even a glimmer?
Maybe a glimmer. A small glimmer.
But that was not right. That glimmer had to be darkened, because it was wrong and bad and practically illegal, and it would be more hurt than anything-
- and, for God's sake, she thinks frantically, why doesn't this car go any faster?
So she presses down harder, the panic pounding in her ears, and the splash of glass and the hail of gunfire is drowned out, but she manages to think vaguely that she's doing this for her sister, and only for her sister, because she asked her to, and that's what sisters do-
-sisters don't feel the panic dissolve into a strange state of euphoria at seeing him, alive.
And there is no glimmer, because there is no way he feels the same lightness.

Date: 2005-03-12 06:30 am (UTC)You don't only capture this special moment of recognition and shock so very well but manage to draw upon the darker aspects of Nadia that we *know* must be there according to canon-- fears, doubts, loathing from a past that's everything but perfect.
And, just as Yahtzee says, your emotional Jack-Sydney-Nadia triangle is spot-on.
Thank you so much. May I beg for more?
