Day 06 → Whatever tickles your fancy
Oh hell yes.

To say that I love Robin Sparkles is kind of an understatement. Why don't you watch her hit single, "Let's Go to the Mall"? Go on, I'll wait.
Don't want to watch it? THAT'S OKAY, I'VE GOT PICSPAMS.

So, Robin Sparkles is the Canadian teen pop star alter ego of Robin Scherbatsky. Despite the many, many things I love about How I Met Your Mother- and my overwhelming apathy towards Robin-normal-Robin- Robin Sparkles is my absolute favorite joke ever. Just imagine finding out a friend of yours has a hidden past wherein they were a popstar. IN CANADA! This is something I would never let a friend of mine live down (or, say, the president of the Twelve Colonies) - and the group on HIMYM doesn't really either (Marshall sings Let's Go to the Mall for Karaoke in that Canadian bar he finds for Robin, it's Ted's cell phone ring at one point.) It is something entirely magical and wonderful.
But no, she didn't just sing Let's Go to the Mall. It turns out, there was more glory waiting for us- and that wonder is "Sandcastles in the Sand."

I actually love "Sandcastles in the Sand" a lot more than "Let's Go to the Mall," because the lyrics are just... ten times more amazing. "I'm ready, let's do it!" and "I'm on the pill now!" are two of my favorite lines of anything EVER. It was the greatest week and a half of her life!
Those two videos are just magic. HIMYM has tantalized me (and, presumably its other viewers) by mentioning a variety show Robin did in Canada during the whole Robin Sparkles year of awesome pop domination and I can't wait to get more. Robin Sparkles tickles my fancy, indeed.

Date: 2010-02-11 01:11 am (UTC)I, too, am normally disappointed by Robin's character. I love the actress and think she has had tons of great moments. But the writers just don't know what to do with her. Robin Sparkles, OTOH, was a stroke of genius.

(Sidebar: is that Twelve Colonies thing still going on?)

Date: 2010-02-11 04:11 am (UTC)P.S. I was just looking through your icons and one of them had a quote from "The Bagman's Gambit" and I HAVE TO KNOW if you ever saw me mention that is my Baltar/Gina song or if we're just being braintwins some more.

Date: 2010-02-11 04:49 am (UTC)That's your Gaius/Gina song?! I never saw that! Damn. I am both a bit unnerved by our brainwave sharing and delighted that someone else appreciates the glory of that song.

Date: 2010-02-11 06:53 am (UTC)THIS IS SCARY. Yes, I totally put that song on my huge Baltar fanmix (ZIP file is now down, but all the individual music is still there) specifically because it makes me think of Baltar/Gina from Baltar's POV and this makes me very very sad in a way that I love. I can see it applying to Caprica too. Crazy!
I do love that song. I've made three fanmixes in my life, and I unintentionally put a Decemberists song on all of them.

Date: 2010-02-11 07:08 am (UTC)Well, first off, including "I Touch Myself" is just delightful, well-played. And all the little sample lyrics are dead on, so well done you.
And for some reason I had never associated Gina to the song. I think it transferred to Gaius and Caprica because it was my epic Jack/Irina song from Alias, which had a very similar betrayal dynamic go down, so I was like, okay, this neatly fits in place, but omg, "you'd been abused so horribly." GINA, my heart.
The Decemberists are love! They make our speaking english good, as well as put stories in lyrical formats.
(Also, I notice I keep replying to you right away. I'm not stalking your replies, but apparently our ~brain connection~ extends to me checking my mail mere moments after you comment.)

You do know I made a vid, right?
[/end of my self-pimping for the night]
Edit: They make our speaking english good
LOL, yes.

Date: 2010-02-11 07:45 am (UTC)You know that scene in HIMYM, when Simon mentions that he was in Robin's video, and everyone's like, dude, you're so not in Let's Go to the Mall, and he's like, no, I was in the other one, and Barney gets a high-pitched voice and is all THERE'S ANOTHER VIDEO and runs out? A modified version of that happened at the idea of that vid. *runs off to watch*
I'd self pimp if I had anything to pimp! I just have little fics sprinkled about. I lack skills in other areas. Self-pimp away!
