Czechs and Cubans.
Feb. 26th, 2005 11:10 pmVolunteering today was actually fun, in spite of the fact that I was scraping gum off carpet from 10 to 4. Really. In spite of that, I had a ball.
For one, Michelle Blanco and Yuny were there for most of it, and I love them. I also learned some words in Czech. And I got to eat Czech food. And I got to talk to these four adorable little girls- Karinka, Alexandra, Kristina and the fourth little girl had a weird-yet-pretty name I can't remember- and they could speak perfect English to me and Czech to each other and the youngest was three and the oldest were six. And they were gorgeous.
Anne-Laure was super nice and even though scraping gum kinda sucks, it was still amusing to be with fun people.
I got stabbed in my palm with a nail, so I'm all stigmata. That was cool.
Came home, and we all went out to dinner at the Roadhouse Grill: we got a whole lot of food that we couldn't finish and our waitress was super nice and had Dana's hair minus bangs.
Then we came home, and I fell in love with Mia Maestro even more because I got to watch the movie.
The movie I'm talking about is the true-story of this Cuban trumpeter, Arturo Sandoval. The movie was okay, but his wife, Marianela? Played by Mia Maestro. And dude? If they dressed Mia up on Alias the way they dolled her up for this movie, everyone would forget about Jen Garner. And I mean this seriously. And you all know how much I adore Jen.
But Marianela was gorgeous.
And? The true story had a FANTASTIC ending. In fact, I can go and see Arturo Sandoval anytime I want- he lives here!
And, my little Cuban heart sang at seeing a movie with Gloria Estefan. I love her. She's so Cuban and reminds me so much of my childhood. And Andy Garcia! Another Miami boy!
And Cuba is just... it's such a beautiful country. And I want to go there so badly. And even though I'm Italian and Irish and Spanish- I'm mostly Cuban, and that's where I want to go the most, because it's my roots. It's the most of what I am, if that makes sense.
