Challenge: Sarkney.

'If the moon smiled, she would resemble you.
You leave the same impression
Of something beautiful, but annihilating.'

-Sylvia Plath, 'The Rival'

Note: I really, really hate it.

Rosetta Stone

Sydney has a cool, clear beauty, and that is why she translates so well into any language. Beauty that needs to be propped up, or decorated or primped gets lost in translation and left behind when words come too fast. Hers is cool and quick and fluid, a language all its own.

The most unnerving thing is how easy it was to misunderstand Sydney. She was her own language, with a consistant alphabet and impeccable sentence structure, but the key to this language had long since been lost, and she herself had destroyed it. She would decide who she would teach her language to, who deserves to learn and who can be taught.

Julia Thorne is the rosetta stone, of sorts.

Julia Thorne is the medium through which he found himself able to decode the previous actions of Sydney Bristow, and the odd habits of Julia Thorne. He isn't sure if she remembers him, but she treats him with the same disregard and irrelevance that Sydney always did, so he wonders.

Since the return of Julia Thorne, Sark has been paired with her more times than he can count. She works with the same precision that Sydney did, but she never speaks, and never bites at whatever bait he dangles.

Julia Thorne allows him to figure out why Sydney Bristow chose to reimmerse herself in this life, Julia Thorne allows him to recognize her avoidance tactics, same as he knows why she closes her eyes and holds her breath when they're together, and why she never touches him on purpose.

She still destroys all she touches, but that is by accident.

Awww, I love it, as usual. And I find it particularly nifty that you worked Julia in there, because I was actually going to request something with Sark and Julia and then thought, 'Hmm, maybe that's too weird' and didn't and then lookie here! Are you psychic, perchance?

She works with the same precision that Sydney did, but she never speaks, and never bites at whatever bait he dangles. I loved that and found it particularly interesting; a wonderful illustration of how Sydney has lost herself in all the small ways that came to define her. And I liked the idea of Sark understanding her through Julia; taking that opportunity to pursue that knowledge is so fitting of his character.

And the last few lines? So, so good. Particularly the last is just . . . whoa.

Thank youuu. :D

(Darnit. Now I feel like a Sarkney icon is necessary.)

Well, I love Julia. She's my homegirl.

Writing Sark was weird. Well, writing Sarkney was weird. Not too bad. I had fun researching the rosetta stone, though.

Madi, how is possible that you can brilliantly write ANYTHING?

So totally envious of your ability.

And...damn.

You're just so good.

I'm glad you liked it, honey, as you're my Sarkney girl. I'm... less of a fan.
