Aug. 25th, 2005 12:12 pmYesterday was both tedious and boring and amazingly fun. I'm not allowed to give out much details, but I'll try.
First, Daddy had to take me to school to sign me out for yesterday and "today" (more on that later) so I could leave with Venessa Figueroa to go to rehearsals. There is a huge line of parents. Mind you, up until the day before, our principal had said that a paper signed by our parents would suffice because there was 150 kids leaving from our school. Leal had decided the day before to change her wicked mind, and so the parents swarmed. As Dad was signing me out, Leal suddenly said that everyone signing anyone out had to be the child's actual parent, and dig out the emergency contact cards to ascertain this. Apparently right after I left, Leal said, "Who said they could be signed out for two days? Their parents have to come back tomorrow." and all the teachers helping in the office yelled, "YOU said so." and that was that.
So, at 11:45, we all run back down to be signed out. I was going with Venessa Figueroa and Christine Tomayo, and we stopped at Wendy's for lunch and arrived in the Grove just in time.
We waited outside for an hour with 300 of our friends and acquaintances and let me tell you, y'all, it was HOT. Seriously, drastically hot. I have never sweat so much in my life. It was embarrassing.
Anyway, we finally went in after they alphabetized us (I was the last one in our group, #300!) and sent us in to this giant auditorium. I wound up sitting right behind Philly and waited forever and a day, because since we were the largest group we came early and got signed in early, and all the other groups came and were waiting to be processed and were slowly coming inside.
They had taped up the floor to resemble the stage, and my group got put in the absolute BEST section. The performers are that are going to be there- OH MY GOD. We practiced with props and things and all was well. During the Kelly Clarkson performance we're all supposed to sing along and faux-mosh, and all my friends that were around me- man, we anthemed it. We're all already hoarse.
I can't really say anything about anything, but the show is going to rock, dude.
We had dinner real late, and it was then that we started hearing rumours that there was no school the next day because of Hurrican Katrina. We had had no communication with the outside world for about six hours, so no one knew for sure, but it was quickly mandated that even if we did have school, no one would go, because we had rehearsal the next day, and we're all in vacation frame of mind, and? It would drive Leal nuts, stupid bitch. :-D
Talked to Albert Ovadia, this kid I have not seen since sixth grade. He's cool now, and after we got after the initial awkwardness (that Heather, Addy, Philly and I shared) it was cool to talk to him.
Went back and practiced some more, and I got yelled at at one point for playing with a prop and then for not being where i was supposed to be (because they keep telling us to MOVE) but it was fine. I love my friends, mostly.
At the end, I went home with Venessa Figueroa, Christine and Heather through the grove, which is a scary scary kidnapping place! We quickly ascertained in a flurry of received text messages from our dearly beloved and long-neglected cell phones that said no school, and all was very excited. I got home at like ten thirty, and it was SO glorious to shower.
So, today Heather's coming for me at 1:30 and there's another loooong rehearsal but TODAY we're supposed to see actual FAMOUS PEOPLE. Squee.
And? I got TEN HOURS of sleep. That is obscene. It's unheard of. It feels SO good to be rested.
