Okay, the beginning of the commentaries, yaaay. Starting with
[livejournal.com profile] thepodsquad's requests.

For one, I really like to write Simon. It makes me happy. Or did. When I wrote.

There were girls that were trouble, and there were girls that were trouble. Of these, Sydney Bristow was the former; Julia Thorne, the latter. I always have trouble with the former/latter thing, but it worked here. And I did it right. Yaaay.

Ooh. Meaningful space.
"Were you ever a little girl?" Simon drawled lazily one evening over a shared dinner of straight vodka. ... that's... not... dinner? That's cocktail hour. Hello. I guess they're badasses, and therefore don't need real food? I don't know. "I can't see you as a tea set or doll house enthusiast." Hee.

"Aren't you sweet," she had replied with a snarl that sounded like a caress. See? That's artistic.

He ignored her jibe. "The Queen of Hearts," he announced, and this had shocked her into sitting up. Oh, oh, see that? Alice reference. Fazsham!

"Keep talking like that and there'll be no more for you." She is not amused.

His smile was feral. "Come, love, think. It's not your enchanting disposition." I love Simon. And his vocabulary. It's slightly ridiculous.

Oh, Julia. You're so cynical!
She had rolled her eyes. "Enlighten me."

His dark eyes gleamed, and she felt a faint flicker of... something, something Sydney. There you go. Vague it up a little, willya? Honestly. She squashed it down. What? Whaaaat did you squash down? Jesus.

" 'Off with their heads.' " Oh, I love that.

Appropriate, she later thought, Later when? Later when she was alone? When he was asleep? that he should use that particular character, and that saying. Alice, Alice, Alice. She barely heard him saying what he thought the fate of her dolls must have been as a child. Can you imagine Syd decapitating dolls? And her parents finding them? "Sydney. That is unacceptable behavior."

"I never was a child," she declared haughtily when he had finished. "I was born like this." Well, Julia was. Heeey, that's pretty cool. Sprung fully formed, like Athena! Woot!

He had taken her then, pulling him to her to claim her. Oh, Simon. Foolish boy. "That's good," he said into her ear, his tongue teasing her. "A child like you would've had the spirit beaten out of her."

She had arched her neck and made her mind empty, effectively stifling Sydney. Sydney was talking again? Dear Lord. She needs to leave. Simon's there, hello.

Again, meaningful space. Woo hoo.

He had been showing off, as he liked to. They were a handsome couple I used the word "handsome" because of "Gone With the Wind." Scarlett thinks that when she's in New Orleans with Rhett after they got married, and it seemed nice.- slick, well-dressed, and beautiful. She'd go out with him in his new car, he'd ruin some new dress of hers, and what's more he'd enjoy it, just to have the pleasure of buying her something else, to prove that he could. Holy run-ons, Batman He was a child in that way- eager. He wanted to keep her, and this was his way.

"There is nothing I have that I couldn't replace," She had said coldly to him, apropos of nothing, pushing away his pawing hands.

He took his hands back, and Sydney could see that he was wounded, but she didn't care. "That's hardly true, Jules. You've got-"

"Don't say that I've got you! I haven't, no one has."

His mouth turned into a wry grin. "Wouldn't dream of it, darling. It's so Jack Sparrow. Yaaay. I was going to say that you had your wit, as your charm is faulty. And your mouth." I actually really love what he said here. I think it's pretty Simonish.

He'd swooped down to capture it, and she let him. "You're growing soft," she panted. "Almost down to sweet nothings."

His breath was unsteady as hers. "Your heart is pounding. You're hardly stone."

"Your hand is-" Oh, I am so risqué! Look at that

"I know where it is."

Sydney peeked out fearfully, and Julia writhed. Whaaaat? Why is Sydney showing up randomly? Why didn't I explain this? Dude. "I don't need you to- I don't need you-"

"To what?"

"I don't need you." It's kind of like the opposite of the exchange in "French Kiss."

His face was inscrutible. "Never assumed that you did, babe. Wouldn't dare." *sigh* Simon.

Woo hoo! Meaningful space again!

I think I wrote this because I was like, short of a word limit, or something. Because this ending is really sick and weird and bizarre and doesn't fit at all. And I have no idea why I forced myself to add it. There was a reason, though.
In the dark, when she is neither Sydney nor Julia, *sigh nor anything at all other than some faded shade of grey, interesting she wonders at her actions and emotions as both with a detached, clinical view, slicing open her decisions with a scapel and examining them in the stark light of objectivity. Ew, a little.

Darkness is only the absence of light. ... Um. Okay, then.

Omg hehehe, this was SO CUTE! I kind of adore this completely.

It's so weird to go back and read your old fics and be like, "Where was I GOING with this?"
