Oh dear, dude! I'm really sorry to hear you're having computer difficulties. You should be able to go to Best Buy and have them look up your warranty info by name, as long as it's your name that it's under.
As long as it's still under warranty, they should be able to just replace your screen (sounds like the rest of it is fine). But Best Buy has become very shitty in recent years, and their warranty is no longer as good as it used to be. The last time I had this happen to me they gave me a really hard time about fixing my computer, with this whole list of shit that they wouldn't fix. After that I never got a best buy warranty again. I always get the extended warranty with accidental coverage (because I tend to break my laptops) but always with the manufacturer, and not with best buy. In fact, I was just discussing some broken bits on the screen part that I *just* now noticed. The laptop's only 6 months old :/
I hope that you've backed up your hard drive recently. I don't think they'll mess with it since it doesn't seem to be the problem. But that's always a big issue, because they say they cannot vouch for the contents of your hard drive, and sounds like you can't back it up right now.
anyway, really sorry to hear about this. best of luck sorting it out. and for future reference, don't buy warranties from best buy! (srsly)
I'm still under warranty at Best Buy, and due to that a $300 screen is freeeeeee. Which is awesome.
(At least, they told me this. We'll see when I go pick it up someday.)
Yeah, they warned me I might lose everything, and of course nothing is backed up, but realistically, I don't have anything that can't be replaced. Most of the pictures I have that are important I've sent to other people (like my mom,) my music's all on my iPod, some important files are on my flash drive, and... i can refind icons. I just hope that nothing happens to it cause I have fics that no one's ever seen hiding on there and I will be very sad without them.
