So, I'm watching Lay Down Your Burdens Pt 1, and Kara is leading a mission back to Caprica to go get her man Samders, and they're talking about how it's going to be like, a jillion jumps and they're probably going to die or whatever, but there's something new and cool that will make their lives easier, and that is! INSTALLING CYLON TECHNOLOGY ONTO THEIR RAPTORS, ENABLING THEM TO MAKE BIGGER JUMPS OR SOME SHIT SO THEY CAN GET BACK TO CAPRICA FASTER.

Wait wait wait. What's that you say? Installing Cylon technology? That thing everyone freaks out about in season four? They were doing it in season two? And everyone, including Mr Cylon Hater himself, SeƱor Felix Gaeta, accepted it? WHY YES. IN FACT, HE IS ACTUALLY THE ONE INFORMING EVERYONE OF THIS NEW DEVELOPMENT IN THE READY ROOM. And everyone deals with it just fine! Goddamn. Like, if they showed even just Gaeta making faces, I'd be better with it, but nooo.

I know this show isn't super great at consistency- and really, what show is?- but come on, guys! You act like adding Cylon FTLs is some fresh hell for the fleet to get their panties in a bunch about, but no! They already implemented Cylon technology without everyone dying gruesome deaths or anything.

Cue anger and rage at fleet and the mutineers, as per usual.

Well it's just Athena putting a thingy in her arm, not sticking Cylons in the Quorum or anything.

Also bb Gaeta was more innocent before New Caprica and alliance!Cylons randomly killing everybody on his raptor for oxygen or whatever.

That said: YES OMG THEY SHOULD'VE MADE A BIGGER DEAL ABOUT THAT IF IT WAS GONNA DRIVE SO MUCH OUTRAGE TWO SEASONS LATER.

While a little more outrage would have been in character, I agree with what nicole_anell said in that they were more innocent before the whole New Caprica fiasco. Moreover, in Lay Down Your Burdens, only military vessels were equipped with this Cylon technology. In Season 4 it wasn't as much the military making a fuss over the issue of using Cylon technology as the rest of the fleet led by Tom Zarek's unrest machine.

The LDYB mission was just a volunteer group of Raptors, though. It wasn't a universal technology change, and it didn't involve the Fleet. So especially before New Caprica, I can see it not being such a big deal.

I know it wasn't the same, especially since they weren't saying "hey all ships in the fleet, let's do this," but at the same time, the outrage is shot down by Kara yelling into the microphone for like a second.

I really should BSG Wiki what happened in those webisodes.

This is all true, however, it wasn't only the civilians who were freaking out in season four, but lots of military members as well, including Gaeta, who were like I REFUSE TO SERVE UNDER AN ADMIRAL WHO USES THE CYLONS FOR GOOD. And that's what gets me.

What bothers me about it is that in this season, when Kara says that they have to deal with it, because it's a military decision and they are all members of the military who have to follow orders, they're like, ... okay then. You don't see anyone walk out on principle. These (presumably) are some of the same people who later were exclaiming how they couldn't serve under someone who embraced Cylon technology. I know that NC was a big turning point for a lot of people, but at this point, the Cylons had killed almost everyone ever and made it impossible for them to return home, their moral outrage levels should be pretty damn high as it is.

But the difference is that while the destruction of the colonies was horrific, very few of the people suffered directly from the Cylons. After New Caprica, they had all been subjugated to harsh Cylon rule and that reign of terror probably made the hatred and dislike so much more powerful.

I'm pretty sure that everyone on Galactica lost at least one family member in the destruction of the Colonies, and at the very least, they all lost their homes, and were now fighting and running from an enemy that just won't quit. I understand that New Caprica made everything a bit more real, but the fact remains that no one protests the utilization of Cylon technology on their ships when it only benefits them, only when it benefits them and the Cylons.

Lolol. Typical BSG. I was just talking to somebody (not you?) about how everyone made a big deal out of Gaius surrendering on NC, when Prez Adar surrendered immediately after the apocalypse, and the first thing Lauroslin does when she gets in touch with the gov is to ask whether anyone has offered surrender.

However, I do think there is a much bigger contrast in this instance. Connecting 1 cylon to 1 raptor for the duration of 1 voluntary military mission is a very different story from replacing the engine of every ship in the fleet with cylon technology, installed by cylons.

Not me! I actually never even considered that, but it's so true. Adar immediately offered unconditional surrender, and it was clearly Lauros's first thought, but when Gaius does it everyone's all HEY WAIT A SECOND COWARD. Arg.

I think what bothered me about it was that everyone was like I AM CONCERNED and Kara literally barked something along the lines of "DEAL WITH IT BITCHES" and everyone was like, "... well, okay" and that was it. The civilians flipping out about getting Cylon technology is something I can kind of understand, but when the military types are later complaining that they can't serve under someone that accepts Cylon advances, that's what bothers me, because it seems that since this was just for their benefit, it's okay, but when it could benefit both sides, FORGET IT, WE HATE THE CYLONS.
