So, aside from Melissa, who is special, and friends who originated as internet friends and then became real life friends through real-life encounters, none of my real-life friends know I read fanfic. Or write fanfic. Or, quite possibly, what fanfic even is.

Except my roommate Esther! She found fanfic two years ago and now reads Twilight fanfic, and while her choice of fandom horrifies me, I am still so delighted because... it justifies my reading it? It makes me feel slightly less nerdy? I don't know but I like!

When I lived on the all-girls floor in college (and fake-lived there), we all wrote fanfic together. Well, separately but at the same time in the same place on our boat couches. It was like paradise.

That does sound fantastic! When I first met my BFF Melissa it was like a dream, because it was my first time meeting someone independent of the internet who had my same interests, and I can talk to her about fics and fandom and writing and she gets it!
