So, my mom knows... next to nothing about BSG. That's kind of a lie. She knows a lot of random bits and pieces of BSG that I don't think she should know (like Kara Thrace's actions in Unfinished Business, which she can recount in detail many months later, the fact that Caprica and Tigh had a thing HOW DID SHE REMEMBER THAT?!) and then totally can't remember things that I think she should know (more important details than that, like the fact that Cylons download.)

We just had this conversation that made me legit LOL like five times.




Mom: i just read your story. whose baby did she lose?
Mom: tigh?
Me: yeah, it was tigh's baby and ellen is tigh's wife and it's kind of her fault.
Mom: that she lost it? how?
Me: nonsense
Me: there is a whole thing about how Cylon babies are only made with ~looove~
Me: so when Ellen came back Tigh was like MY ELLEN!!!!! <3
Me: it was 100% ridiculous and stupid
Mom: so the baby DIED????
Me: yes.
Me: i wish i was making this up
Me: it was the worst thing ever
Mom: and ellen is like her cylon mom?
Me: Ellen is everyone's Cylon mom.
Mom: but tigh's not her daddy
Me: ... technically Tigh is her Cylon dad too.
Me: no one knew that until, you know. after.
Mom: but he knew she was a cylon just not that he was, right?
Me: yes
Me: but even when he found out, he didn't know that he was like, the father of all Cylons
Mom: then how was he?
Me: they just realized they were Cylons
Me: different from the ones that had multiple copies, obviously
Me: and ones who aged and presumably didn't download when they died
Me: but then they found out that they were the ones who made the other Cylons
Mom: down load when they died?
Mom: ?????
Me: yeah, it means that their soul goes into another body
Me: so like, when Caprica died saving Gaius's life on Caprica-the-planet, her soul went into a new body
Me: and then she got to go find Gaius elsewhere!
Mom: a new one just like her old one? another 6?
Me: yes
Mom: okay....anyway, sad but very well written

*giggles* I've gotten into BSG discussions with my dad at family dinners and got my mom making o_0 faces (having never seen the show), so I know the feeling.

Usually my mom just walks by while I'm watching and asks questions or makes comments, which generally involve her calling Boomer something that sounds similar but isn't correct (Bam Bam, Boom Boom, Blaster) or talking about the 'beautiful pilot' who 'slept with that one guy's son and then married the handsome one the next morning.' It's all fun and games until you have to explain something unfortunate!

The whole "parents" thing drove me nuts. Are they not metaphorical parents? The eight were test-tube babies! Presumably they are not their literal parents! I mean, obv. Sammy's genetic material is nowhere in there because none of them are as handsome as he is. I can maybe buy that part of Ellen is in Caprica, but she acts like she personally birthed each one of them, which isn't literally true.

This is all to say, I liked Tigh/Caprica and I wanted Liam to liiiiiiiiiiiiiive.

I just figured since the Tighs were like, the grown-ups of the group and the only couple who could stand one another, they were used to acting as a unit and therefore being the 'parents' of their darling little creations. I don't think the five are their actual legit bio parents or anything, but I so totally wasn't going into that with my mom at two AM, she has enough trouble with the show as it is.

(My theory is that Six was designed specifically to look like young Ellen, but that's really neither here nor there.)
