Dear everyone who has put up with me this last week,

You are all amazing rockstars. The amount of whining, bitching and crying that you tolerated this week is truly awe-inspiring, and you all handled it with the patience of saints. I truly don't deserve such an amazing group of friends.

However, things are on the upswing- it turns out that there *is* housing in my school! I showed up at my school today and two of the English teachers were asking me about my situation, both very unhappy about what had gone down, because I had done the right thing and I still got screwed over. The lady, Anna, was like I CAN'T STAND IT I'M GOING TO GO YELL AT SOMEONE and I don't know what she did but within an hour not only did I have a room, but people were scrambling to furnish it. I got to see it this afternoon, and it's a decent sized room with a sink and an armoire and a bed, a tiny nightstand and lamp, and apparently they plan on getting me a desk and two chairs. The next two rooms over are the German and Spanish assistants, and then the door after them is the part with our toilet, shower/sink room (France loves doing that for some reason) tiny kitchen with like, a grown-up EZ Bake Oven, a tiny dining room and a room with a TV and two chairs. They still don't have internet (D:) but they're saying next week, and I'm moving in when my stay at the hostel finishes, which is Saturday morning. Best of all, the rent is 175 euros a month. THAT IS SO LUDICROUSLY LOW I CANNOT EVEN UNDERSTAND IT.

Anyway, even though I'm still homesick I would jump at the chance to fly home tomorrow, I'm doing a lot better.

Thank you so much for all being fantastic friends!

Love,
Madi

I had no idea you could find a room that cheap in Paris. My mind is boggled. I am so excited for you! I am glad everything is starting to go your way.

It's twenty-something minutes outside of Paris, so don't be too boggled!

So glad things are on the up swing. You have survived the trial by fire initiation into moving overseas. My experience is that places that offer few amenities for living in your home expect you to be living out of it. I hope you find some fun people to hang and explore with now that you don't have so many pressing worries. Hang in there.

SO glad to hear your living situation is going to be resolved and for such a good rate :D They do that shower/sink in one room, toilet in the other room thing in Russia (and in various relatives' homes in India that I've noticed) as well - it is actually probably more hygienic than having your toothbrushes etc. right next to the toilet, but sometimes it's a little annoying :P

(And did you manage to get the Skype thing to work yet?)

Eeeeeeee! Yay for such good news! I'm so glad you have a place to live, and even better that it's at school and with people vetted to not be psychos. Yayyyyy!

Separate showers/ sink and toilets in Japan, too. Here the sink is IN the shower, because the whole room is the shower. Why yes,it IS a bit messy. :-)

Oh, terrific! I've been thinking of you a lot and wondering how you are getting on. That sounds like a perfect situation. It also sounds like you are with good people who will work to help you out.

When I moved to France, and had a really tough time the first few weeks, a friend gave me advice that helped me a lot and has turned out to be 100% true. She told me that moving to, and living in, a foreign country on my own would be the hardest thing I'd ever done, but once I accomplished it I would know, with absolute surety, that I could do anything. So I know that once you push through this, you will come out the other side stronger and more self-confident than you can even imagine right now. :)
