Oct. 17th, 2005 09:06 pmI should LJ just to prove that I'm still alive.
Spent a lot of yesterday doing my director's book for Drama, only to find out this morning that she extended the date to Wednesday. Turned it in anyway, and now I need to finish, somewhat, my history internal assessment thinger. Dammit.
We went to the six o'clock mass yesterday... I find that I'm just interested in it from an outsider's perspective. Like, they were talking about giving to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God what is God, and then they talked about the votes about the legislations in the state of Florida about stem cell research and marriage between gays in Florida and how important it was to vote against them (aaaaarg.) For example, my best friend Talisa is homophobic. To an extent, I can't really blame her for being that way- her parents are, and she was in Catholic school from third grade to eighth, and has been in a christian school all of high school- but it's downright embarrassing. I guess it just was an eye-opener after not going to church for so long- I've been going to church my whole life, and now I just feel like I'm down with G-O-D and Jesus and what have you, and... a lot of people say that if I went to a different church, or a different religion, it'd be better... but I don't think so.
The weather is absolutely perfect now, the temperature at seven this morning was 71ยบ and it stayed delicious all day.
Today on TNT was "Another Mr. Sloane" and it was fantastic. I had forgotten how much I like that episode. So witty.
My new favorite song is "Coming up from behind" by Marcy Playground. Everyone should get it.
History internal assessment word count: 1568/2000, I am SO going over. Not good.

Date: 2005-10-17 06:28 pm (UTC)I don't like Catholic mass. It always made me feel .. icky. I've never felt comfortable with the Catholic faith. I used to go to Sunday school every Sunday since like, before I can remember. I was so happy when I was finally confirmed because I never had to go back! I am a Christian and very fervent in my beliefs, but I've drifted from my Catholic roots. Especially coz, NO OFFENSIVE TO ANYONE, but the Catholics that I hung around were always less tolerant about everything. And I'm very liberal. Pro-gay rights and even pro-choice. Catholics never liked me for that.
And, yes, the weather today was be-a-u-tiful here too! Everyone was so happy with it. It's probably going to get dreadfully hot again soon though.

Date: 2005-10-17 08:01 pm (UTC)That's exactly it. I've got my Yankee Democrat of a mother and I'm surrounded by Cuban Republicans.
I thought I could get out of church once I was confirmed; no go. I told my dad that come december, he can't make me come 'cause I'll be legal... and he said I'd do what he said to. Damn Cubans.
Catholics as a general rule are less tolerant. And it's not like I'm going to become something else but... arg, whatever.

Date: 2005-10-20 08:08 pm (UTC)Ain't that just the thing a Cuban father would say? My parents have never really been too religius themselves; I can't remember the last time my mom went to church. We mostly just went to Sunday school 'coz that's what you do: you send your kids to religious education classes. Even though he's not really into it, my dad doesn't like when Catholics are romantically involed with non-Catholics. I was (kinda) dating this guy once who was Methodist and my dad was a little upset, and it was coz he wasn't Catholic. Can you imagine if I ever dated a Jewish guy? My dad would flip. But then again, I don't really care what he thinks, so whatever.

Date: 2005-10-17 10:39 pm (UTC)Hm. I like some aspects of the Catholic faith, but I don't think I could ever convert (is it called converting if you don't really have a religion to begin with?) because there are some huge areas where I am just not down with their views. I am just too darn liberal.
