May. 22nd, 2006 11:43 pmOkay, more composed.
- They butchered Irina's character and I can't stand that. She was so awesome and amazing when she started and then they turned her into a cardboard character of evil because Sloane was dead and they needed someone bad. And it's so... it's not fair to the fans.
- Daddy. Oh, Daddy. You died for your baby, and she didn't have to feel guilty about it. But they did right by Jack, and I'm okay with it. Except for the fact that he's dead. But as okay as I can be. I mean, he got up to watch Sydney leave- his baby, and then he went down to take out Sloane. He was the master of his fate and the captain of his soul, just as he would have wanted.
- Sloane. Oh man. Talk about just desserts. Sure, sure, have eternal life, but you? You are trapped under GIANT ROCKS for the rest of eternity. By yourself. Think about what you've done, mister.
- Nadia! In white. And she's totally hanging out with Jack now. Forever and ever. Because Sloane's alive and Irina's hanging with Hitler or something.
- I loved the flashbacks, aside from the fact that they were filler and sometimes annoying. (YAY FRANCIE. And I can't believe I just said that.) But when it was shown that Daddy didn't put Syd into Project Christmas, Syd found it herself? Or when big Syd went to tell her dad about her new job and to get his approval and he knew and tried to stop her and she took it the wrong way and all she wanted was her daddy's approval and she didn't get it? Oh man. Oh lord in heaven. JJ and the writers have my number like whoa.
- ANSWERING QUESTIONS, HUH? YOU PROMISED YOU'D ANSWER MY QUESTIONS AND YOU LIED, JUST LIKE YOU ALWAYS HAVE.
- SpyFamily 2.0 was a pyrric victory for me. Like, yay, SyVa got married and had babies and got their house on the beach and lived happily ever after but... no SpyGrandpa. No Tia Nadia. No SpyGrandma or ANYTHING. Not that we wanted Season Five Irina because Season Five Irina was evil even though she shouldn't have been. She's not bad, she's just drawn that way.
- That said... Alias went out with a bang. And I did enjoy it except for when I was crying so hard and I had to hold my breath. And the message at the end... the only thing that could've killed me worse would've been playing "Thanks for the memories."
Lord.

Date: 2006-05-23 04:03 am (UTC)And even though it is heartbreaking that SpyDaddy died, I really think he's one of the few Alias-deaths that was actually kind to the character. Except for the first time Emily died, when has an Alias character had a touching death. Everyone else was BOOOM! *dies* SpyDaddy's was sad and it was moving. Emily got a funeral the first time and a nice speech from Syd. Jack got a sentimental scene with Syd and a baby named after him. How many other characters have gotten that respect?

Date: 2006-05-23 11:23 am (UTC)I haven't seen any of Season 5 (I started watching the show on DVD late last year) but my brother couldn't resist telling me how it ended so I had to watch. My two biggest beefs were the bad Irina characterization (I was like WTF...who is this?) and the fact that they didn't really explain anything. Grr. But I was somewhat prepared for this...they always muck up the finales. Always. It's only the level of the mucking up that's the question.
I still love the show over all, but this was disappointing.

And your right, finales never are as good as they should be. Honestly, I think the finale to Friends, although pretty stupid, was one of the best I've seen. It was bad, just not as bad as others... like Seinfeld for instance.

I think my favorite series finale is the one for Sex & the City. It was just... perfect, everything about it. The one for X-Files was not so great, but the shippiness was everywhere, so it was all good. ;)
Also! I hate Irina all-around, I did always, but even *I* was upset at the character butchering!!

Date: 2006-05-23 09:11 pm (UTC)Character assassination aside, however, I thought it was a very good, typically Alias finale. Okay, so I didn't actually understand Sloane and Irina's plans for world domination (Rambaldi immortality plus the reconstruction money?), but have we ever really understood all the wacky Rambaldi plots? (What was the Covenent anyway?) I imagine that JJ (like the rest of us) really has no idea wtf's up with Rambaldi, so it's probably better that they left Rambaldi in all his crazy, crack smoking, world domination glory because any attempts at explanation/resolution probably would've fallen short.
The Syd-Sloane and Syd-Jack interactions were spot on and wonderful. And while I'll never get over Jack's death, at least it did him justice. ("You beat death, Arvin, but you couldn't beat me". Because we all know Jack Bristow is much, much scarier than death.)
As much as I actually like Sloane, he deserves his eternity buried under a giant rock. Although now I'm having visions of archaeologists fifty years from now on a dig in Malaysia excavating Arvin Sloane.
Oh, Alias. My crazy, wacky, emotional rollercoaster of a show. It's been fun.

Date: 2006-05-24 03:27 am (UTC)I really did like the episode for what it was. Like, Alias doesn't answer questions, I get that- but I wish everyone hadn't promised that it would, because then I got angry.
And the whole immortality/reconstruction money was just... I have no idea. Just... whatever.

And yep, that message at the end made me cry so much **sniff**
