I know it doesn't really matter much to anyone other than, like, me, but I have to post about it- Castro has relinquished power to his brother.

I need to add that it's temporary, because he's undergoing surgery, but Castro has never given up power. Not ever. And now he's done it, because he's having an intestinal surgery, and... sure, it could be just a month-long thing, but all of Miami is freaking out and honking in the streets under the (common) assumption that anyone would be better than Fidel.

And here I am, afraid to jinx it by talking about it, and everyone is giddily dancing about it as if he were dead already (Although, technically, he could be, and the government could be scrambling- stop with the conspiracies, omg!) and it's the whole, "Once Castro dies, everything will get better" mentality that I've grown up with and heard all my life, that everyone else has too, apparently, and I'm excited, dammit.

Any time a dictator gives up a smidgeon of power, it's a reason to celebrate, you know. Hey, maybe Castro will like the whole giving up power thing and make it permanent.

While my grandparents have always had the "Once Castro dies, everything will get better" attitude, my parents have not. I remember hearing my grandmother say that she does wish death on anyone, but if someone has to die, she hopes it was him. My parents, on the other hand, have always led me to believe that even with Castro out of the picture, Cuba would probably remain the way that it was.

But, really, who knows.

I guess all I can say is that you shouldn't get your hopes up, but I'm quite certain that Castro and his regime won't be around forever. It will change in our lifetime. *hugs*

Well, you don't know many Cubans.

OMG, I so know. Last night they were showing all these Cubans partying in the streets and I was like, "shut up, you're going to jinx it, go home!"

And I do hope the regime ends, but I'm pretty sure that Castro will live forever. The damned can do that.

I was reading about how the Cubans in Miami are all either going insane from excitement or they're convinced it's a trick Fidel is playing to see what happens.
