So, it was my sister's sixteenth birthday yesterday. We went out to dinner as a family on Saturday, then we're having a party for her friends on Friday night and my dad's family is coming on Saturday/Sunday. So, mom was like, don't expect too much of a blow-out on the actual day of your birthday, cause a lot is going on. This saddened Mel a bit, mostly because she'd been asking for a castle cake, which my mom and a friend of hers had made for Mel's, like, fourth birthday. It was damn impressive, if my eight-year-old memory serves me correctly. Anyway, Mom said to forget it, cause everything else was going on.

And then when she was at school that day, Mom and I made it.

Yes, I am proud of myself! I was crazy domestic that day, baking and decorating and then making biscuits from scratch for dinner- it was a nice day.

My mother had the magazine article from, oh, twelve years ago, so we had a guide. She's a lot more creative than I by far, but if I can do it, so can you!
