Jul. 23rd, 2008 12:19 amSo I was supposed to go online last night in Hendersonville, but I had to go buy a new camera cause mine got ruined when Ellen put an open water bottle in my purse and everything got soaked, so. I am now in Stephen's City, Virginia in a Holiday Inn with blessed, blessed internet.
I'd only been to Fayetteville in NC before, so I was amazed at how beautiful the mountains are here. I've never really been a fan of them, seeing as I'm a Florida girl, but holy god were the two mountain ranges gorgeous. And the sunsets! The colors of the sky with the clouds over the peaks- it was breathtaking. So I took lots of pictures.
We also went to this cool place called the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, which is this beautiful castle constructed by one of the Vanderbilts. I got some faaaabulous pictures of the mountains and the outside of the house and the grounds.
Mrs Hoppe also taught me how to crochet! And I'm pretty good at it so far. I'm not doing anything too difficult or anything, but for me to learn anything that requires more dexterity than typing is a challenge, so I'm proud.
We have about seven more hours and 421 miles of driving until we reach NY, and after today's stress (I am an awesome navigator, but the Blue Ridge Parkway effed us over big time with their detours) I cannot wait to just arrive and have no where further to go than Saratoga.

Date: 2008-07-23 04:46 am (UTC)OMG, I totally learned how to crochet this very week as well! I am halfway through a scarf, but ran out of wool. I can sort-of knit, too, but only easy stuff, so I'm going on a wool-buying expedition tomorrow to make a hat and a cushion. It gets compulsive very fast. Great for road trips. :D I love that we are both doing it!
And a belated congrats on the apartment, too... I was AWOL for a few days. I'll have to come back for another visit to UF!

Date: 2008-07-23 04:58 am (UTC)I've started on my second scarf! I was going to work on it in the car today but Mom was very paranoid about missing/misreading signs, so as the navigator I was required to pay attention and not crochet.
The apt should be pretty awesome. You're more than invited to come see it!

Date: 2008-07-23 05:37 pm (UTC)I'm beginning to get good at crocheting and watching TV, so I'm sure you could manage to follow road signs at the same time.
... what are you going to do with two scarves in Miami? You'll have to come see me again to wear them! :D

Date: 2008-07-26 02:16 am (UTC)So far the trip has been really nice! And NC was absolutely lovely. I'd love to go back there. I had to text Chels because we went through Boone, because her mom went to college there and I kept thinking of her. I miss you guys!

Date: 2008-07-23 10:53 pm (UTC)Be careful with the crocheting, it sneaks up on you and gets all addicting and before you know it you're in the middle of three afghans at once...

Date: 2008-07-26 02:17 am (UTC)I really am into it, but i tried to make a scarf going width-wise instead of length-wise and the edges keep curling up so it looks like a yarmulke instead. It's challenging.
