So I'm watching SVU, getting fodder for horrible dreams tonight because I'm clearly dumb, and the episode ends. I check the time to see if I can watch another episode before I go to bed.

The clock says 1:05.

This is bewildering, of course, because it had already been 1:05, about an hour before. 'Do we fall back this weekend?' I wonder aloud. I look to my alarm clock. It says 2:05.

'Huh,' thinks I, 'I should check my phone.'

I do, and it says 2:06. I turn it off and turn it back on, it says 2:07.

'Okay, so! Maybe they haven't updated it. Let me find out online. Surely the internet will know.'

The internet is of frightening little help. I go to facebook of all places to see if that'll help. Nothing.

'Woe!' Thinks I, 'If only there were some sort of technology that enabled me to connect with the rest of world through vision and auditory senses!'

Then I realize that I do, in fact, have a TV. A TV connected to cable. A TV that has a great channel called 'The TV Guide,' aka, 'The Channel Where You Can Watch Time Spring Ahead or Fall Back.'

It says 2:09.

So, now I know the time everywhere (2:- something) is correct, but it does lead to the question 'what the hell went on with the computer?'

In 2007, Congress extended daylight savings time by a few weeks, making it end in early November rather than late October. Computers that haven't been updated since then are programed to automatically turn the clock back on the date that was scheduled before congress changed it.

That does make sense! The computer I'm borrowing is kind of elderly (in an awesome, wonderful way, seeing as I get to use it and not be computerless.)

Thanks for solving the mystery!

Clocks do go back today in the UK. My computer was the first one who told me! :)

At least your computer was correct! Mine was misinformed.
