Dec. 25th, 2009 11:53 pmChristmas was pretty good this year! We were thwarted going to see Nine, but instead we watched True Blood (sidebar: yeah, I started True Blood. I AM LOVING BILL. I am very chagrined by this) and our family dinner was actually incredibly fun and pleasant. I hope everyone else had a wonderful holiday!

Date: 2009-12-26 06:12 pm (UTC)You were right about Kendra Shaw-- she was just OK. The actress, I thought, was really good, as she pulled off the coldness and the lostness really well--sadly, she didn't convey anything else. And the really sad part is that Razor did not even pretend to offer any sort of character for her, any background or depiction of what she was feeling or why she acted the way she did. For BSG, that was a pretty surprising failure.
I loved Admiral Cain, of course. And I was appalled that Lee really did keep trying to kill Kara, lol. I thought Lee's struggles were some of the more interesting ones in Razor.
Anywho, about True Blood: yeah, I don't think the similarities to Twilight are flaws in True Blood, but anything that reminds me of SMeyer's work makes me uncomfortable. Like, the whole mind-reading dynamic between Sookie and Bill-- isn't there a similar thing bet. Edward and Bella, where he can't read her mind? And you make a very good point that Edward pretends to be a gentleman when he's actually a psychotic freak, but at the same I can't help but think of all the Twihards and Twimoms who gush over Edward's gentlemanly ways whenever Bill behaves in an old-fashioned manner.
So they're very superficial similarities, I acknowledge, but I can't help an instinctive shudder in reaction. That said... I'm still going to watch more episodes! Because I am not good at stopping once I've started watching something. And because I'm curious to see where it goes...
