Jan. 17th, 2010 02:45 pmSo, generally speaking, when you find out someone is pregnant, you have, like, at least six months to get your shit together. That is HALF A YEAR. I found out that my cousin Natali was going to have a baby, oh... seven, eight months ago? Or something? Find this out, decide around four months ago that I'm going to crochet her a baby blanket. Last frakking month I decided, huh, I should get my act together- really started working on the blanket I started in November. Saw my heavily pregnant cousin on Christmas, knew that the baby's arrival was nigh. Baby Juliette was born on the 13th, AND IS THE BLANKET DONE? NO. I am made of such fail.
So today I am crocheting. For real.
I love that I have a tag for "being made of fail."

Jan. 1st, 2010 12:27 amSo, my sister, who has friends and a boyfriend in Miami, went to a party. I was a bit bitter- which, I know, I shouldn't be, because my sister is social and it's not like I hate the idea of spending New Years with my parents (really. It's not the greatest thing, but I can handle it)- but whatever. She's seventeen, she can handle a new years away from her family.
Mom and I had a fair amount to drink, USA has had a Burn Notice marathon on, so it's been a pretty decent night. Midnight approaches, and my dad joins us, and we're all sitting on the loveseat. We're counting it down, and all of the sudden we hear from the front porch "HAPPY NEW YEARS!"
My sister and her boyfriend ran fifteen minutes- well over a mile- to get home by midnight. It was honestly the closest thing in my life to a movie moment. I was like "THAT'S MELI" and my parents were like, what, she's not here... and I open the door and there she is! It was awesome.
(And then I got all emotional, because I've been drinking and I get emotional before I leave. I was crying watching Little Women earlier today, which is absurd.)
ANYWAY. HAPPY NEW YEARS!

Dec. 25th, 2009 11:53 pmChristmas was pretty good this year! We were thwarted going to see Nine, but instead we watched True Blood (sidebar: yeah, I started True Blood. I AM LOVING BILL. I am very chagrined by this) and our family dinner was actually incredibly fun and pleasant. I hope everyone else had a wonderful holiday!

Feb. 8th, 2009 11:39 pmI had a pretty awesome weekend with my family- that's right, family, because it worked out that my mom and sister could come too, and then it worked out that they could stay an extra night- and I am so tired but in a good way. And I realized while my dad was here that my spanish has not completely atrophied.
(And also at an antique store today I saw an Elektra doll bobble head. Jen Garner, as a bobble head. If only (a)bobble heads didn't freak me out and (b) it was way overpriced, I totally would've bought it. As it were, I took a picture on my phone and sent it to Monica and Hannah, and their responses were "LMAO awesome" and "Holy shit" respectively. Make of that what you will.)
Also I heard the most amazing song ever this weekend, and through super sleuthing based on the random snippet of lyrics I could remember, I found it. Scissor Sisters! Who knew!
And now? Now I am not going to do my homework. AND POSSIBLY NOT GO TO CLASS TOMORROW. I am such a rebel. An exhausted, exhausted rebel.

Jul. 31st, 2008 08:13 pmSo, my dad and uncle were going to go to Boston tomorrow for a mancation, wherein they attended a Red Sox game and generally enjoyed one another's company in sporty atmosphere.
And then my uncle got this weird infection from a honest-to-God superbug (merca or something) on his ankle and now instead of a mancation, it's a famcation, cause we're all going, and Mel and my dad are going to the game. (Melanie: "If Jen and Ben are at the game, you're going to be soooooo jealous." Me: "If you get to meet Ben and Jen, some heads are gonna roll." Not that I'd be able to speak anyway.)
So, that's what's up. Tomorrow we are going to Boston for two days or so and I'm really excited, even though I don't know too much about the city. We were supposed to go last year and then decided at the last minute to go to Quebec.
Otherwise, familial drama stands with some factions of my family, which is so super awkard it's painful, and my dad got to NY safely, and the vacation is going good. Even if I'm like ten episodes behind with the_retelling and completely unaware of celeb news and sadly out of touch with my friends.
