Dear Republicans in my life, namely, my Padrino,



I know that you mean well. Really, I do. You feel that I am obviously misinformed, and you want to give me all the facts before the election. This is what my father wants to do as well, and my other uncle.

I choose not to reply in turn because I know it's a losing battle. You guys are old men, and in the case of two of you, you're Cuban, which means you'd vote Republican even if it meant electing a horse.

But sending me videos that say that voting democrat is the same as hating babies, puppies, family and money is just annoying and absurd. I think my love for all the above has been well-documented.

ALSO CUBAN MEN, OBAMA WANTS TO END THE EMBARGO. THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND, SEÑORES "I WANT TO GO TO CUBA BEFORE I DIE."

Luckily, my whole family is in the Obama court. My Mississippi-born-and-raised, truck-driving, football-loving, white as Wonder bread father gave to Obama. And he was for Fred Thompson in the primaries.

Yeah, my father is a super hardcore Republican, and almost everyone on my mom's side is a Republican and... yeah. At least my mom's family could potentially change- for Cubans, it's like a honor thing. No democrats since Kennedy, no lie. So my dad? Forever and ever and ever Republican.

Ugh, I feel your pain. We no longer discuss politics with my parents because everyone involved just gets too angry. I like to think of it as each of us respecting the other's right to believe whatever they want, which is much better than it used to be.

Just out of curiosity, can I see these videos? I really want to know how exactly democrats hate puppies...

Catholic votes are important. I, as Catholic, need to vote Republican, or else the godless heathens will ruin the country and LIFE AS WE KNOW IT WILL END.

My favorite line (in the old once, since I haven't seen that version in ages!) is when FDR is all "Everyone! Republicans included, sing!" I love Annie SO MUCH holy hell.

I used to get them from my Uncle Larry, but he finally started respecting my political decisions as an adult. Kind of. In person not so much.

I'm the lone liberal in a family of Republicans. I love them dearly, but we tend to steer clear of politics for the most part. I do tease my mom that I vote to cancel hers out.

So I'm Republican. I don't hide that, especially with most of my friends being Democrats. However, political views and party affiliation is like at the ultimate bottom of my "what I look for in a friend" list.

But anyone who's telling you what you're supposed to think, or more correctly, what THEY want you to think, is wrong.

Believe what you believe in. It's your choice; your ideas, your decisions. Nobody should be telling your what or who you have to vote for.
