Day 20 → A hobby of yours

I can crochet! That's about as much as a hobby as I can do, unless you count watching TV or shipping like I'm getting paid as a hobby.

I tried to find a youtube video of my favorite stitch, and... couldn't find it? Whatever. I know enough to make blankets and scarves, and that is enough for me.

So, generally speaking, when you find out someone is pregnant, you have, like, at least six months to get your shit together. That is HALF A YEAR. I found out that my cousin Natali was going to have a baby, oh... seven, eight months ago? Or something? Find this out, decide around four months ago that I'm going to crochet her a baby blanket. Last frakking month I decided, huh, I should get my act together- really started working on the blanket I started in November. Saw my heavily pregnant cousin on Christmas, knew that the baby's arrival was nigh. Baby Juliette was born on the 13th, AND IS THE BLANKET DONE? NO. I am made of such fail.

So today I am crocheting. For real.

I love that I have a tag for "being made of fail."

I am in a weird, weird state of mind right now. Maybe it's not 'state of mind' so much as: I feel a bit weird- I'm tired and headachey and stuffy; I have two papers due Tuesday before noon, 3-5 pages each; I have two scarves to finish before Tuesday so Mom can mail them out to our relatives, that's not even taking into account the several I still have to make for some friends; and the Miami Herald is doing this super long series on Cuban, seeing as it's 50th anniversary of Castro's takeover and reading two long articles about it this morning just filled me with angst and sadness.

Ugh.

THE GATORS ARE GOING TO THE BCS CHAMPIONSHIP! There is no end to my excitement!

So, I'm making a scarf for my spanish teacher because she's my favorite professor ever and this is the last time I'll have her and making a scarf is fun and I decided to be fancy and make it more than one color, and now I'm all terrified that it will turn out horrible because I am a spaz. A SPAZ!

Also, I have a french exam tomorrow- the one based on all the French texts I DIDN'T READ and instead I'm
- crocheting
- making brownies
- listening to ABBA's "Take a Chance on Me" which... AWESOME.
- doing memes!

And this is after spending the day with Ollie chatting and watching Alias and eating awesome food. I am productive as all get out.

A) Last night Crusoe almost made me cry from angsty shippiness. This is my dilemma: I love any love story with heart-wrenching angst, but I hate cheaters. THIS A QUANDARY.

(Also, I feel kind of bad for hoping that Crusoe will get home to England and something will have befallen Susannah, like a new husband or an illness, and then he'll be able to find Olivia WHO HE CLEARLY HAS A THING FOR and they will live happily ever after in civilization. Or back on the island, if they so desire. Olivia'd be down with that, she said as much. Poor lamb loves that Crusoe.)

B) I somehow managed to lose my crochet hook. I took it to my roommate's room yesterday to start a scarf while I watched "Get Smart" and now it's gone. Which is bad because I want to finish the damn thing. It's also bad because I'm afraid that like, the apartment monster has taken it and I'll never get it back and I've never seen plastic crochet hooks here and I've never ever seen hooks as big as the one my aunt gave me, and I don't want to have to use another one!

B.5) Get Smart was actually pretty good! Spies! Comedy! Anne Hathaway! :)

C) I have:
- a test tomorrow, and then fiesta in Spanish
- a test on Wednesday
- a test on Thursday, then a review session, then a meeting with my professor to go over outlines for two papers I have due the 16th and 18th
- a test on Friday, after which I GO HOME!!!

D) I've been singing the songs from Dr Horrible essentially since I saw it and I actually, like, analyzed the damn movie. I'm clearly a bit nutty.

Bullets is the name of the game tonight!

- I have had such a good time hanging out with my sister these past few days. She's spent the night here with me and we've had such fun sleepovers because we have the exact same sense of humor (and Mel is a lot funnier than me) and we laugh all the time. It's awesome. I'm going to miss her. :(

- Black Friday was stupid. I didn't get very much, it was ridiculously early and I don't really like crowds. I don't think I'll do it again next year. I got up at like, 5:15 and came home at noon to take a nap. That was the loveliest part of the day, really. I ♥ naps.

- I have crocheted about twenty things since I started in July. THIS IS OBSCENE, PEOPLE.

- I will be 21 in 22 days. This is mind-blowing.

- The delightful [livejournal.com profile] dollsome is 21 today, and I wish her a lovely day and an even lovelier year. I know she will totally be hitting up bars and liquor stores constantly now that's she legal. The inner party girl that has been straining to escape for years will escape!

- I guess I can put up Christmas icons now? I'm so weird about my Christmas preferences- I hate the majority of Christmas music that they play in stores, because I am an ornery creature and hate to have my mood "influenced" by the damn music- be cheery, we mean it!- but I have some very lovely Christmas icons. And I guess I'm more into the holiday this year than I have been previously? I helped Esther decorate our apt, after all.

After running my mouth all summer about how everyone's getting scarves for Christmas, I realized like last week that after finishing Gramma's bigass "lap" blanket that wound up being about the size of my double bed and using almost two two pounds of yarn (!!!) I hadn't really crocheted anything. So now I have to speed my ass up and I think I'm getting calluses from yarn and my crochet hook.

I rue the day I learned that I was crafty.

I love crocheting. And I am suddenly really good at it.

That is all.
