Day 02 → Your favorite movie
I swear, I'm not as obsessed with this movie as one would think based on the past two days. However, when I was thinking of my favorite movies, I was torn by a lot of things. I love Titanic, but that movie is ridiculous and I tease it mercilessly. I love Notorious, but I don't feel the desire to watch it every time it's on. I love The American President, but it isn't my favorite. Quite simply, The Sound of Music is. Every single time it's on TV, I want to watch it. Whenever my friend mentions putting it on, I am in the mood to watch it. There is, out of the entire movie, maybe seven minutes that I don't absolutely love.
Let's review the reasons this movie is awesome!
These are a few of my favorite things
1. The Actual Music
The songs in this movie are classics. Sure, the lyrics might be a bit corny, but they're so wholesome and beautiful and sweet. The actual music itself is beautiful- the Laendler? Don't even. Edelweiss is considered so classic that most people think it's the actual national anthem of Austria, which it totally isn't BUT SHOULD BE. Rodgers and Hammerstein are the best musical team ever, and this movie proves it.
2. Nazis!
Did this spark my interest in history? Quite possibly. All good movies should have the threat of Nazis.
3. The kids!
Most kids in movies are annoying, this is just how it works- and I say this as someone who adores children. In this movie? Every kid is awesome except for Brigitta. Frak you, Brigitta.
4. It is gorgeous.
No, seriously. It was shot in Salzburg and has all these landmarks and the mountains are gorgeous and the fountains and the castles and the opening sequence and the von Trapp house and the baroness's clothes and some of Liesl's clothes when she's not in a uniform and everyone is aesthetically pleasing, especially Georg von Trapp.
5. Georg von Trapp
My thing for men in uniform started when I was knee high to a grasshopper. I regret nothing. He's firm but deep down he's loving and dear god is he handsome.
6. NUNS
I love Catholicism, I love the Reverend Mother, I love the other sometimes-snarky nuns and I love Nonnberg Abbey.
In conclusion, I adore this movie.
