Day 13 → A fictional book

I don't... get it? A fictional book that I liked? That I hated? That I'm currently reading? That I last finished? I NEED MORE DETAILS PLEASE.

So I'm just... going with one I like.

Whenever you touched me, I knew you were comparing me with Rebecca. Whenever you looked at me or spoke to me, or walked with me in the garden, I knew you were thinking, "This I did with Rebecca, and this, and this." It's true, isn't it?

I was a really warped little kid, and I read this book when I was like... eleven. And I have read it about a hundred times since then. The writing is so fluid and beautiful, and you can picture everything so perfectly. I love the plot and the characters, I love how Rebecca never shows up, I love that the narrator is never named. I love speculating on the narrator's name. I love that it was made into a wonderful Hitchcock film that actually does the book justice (for the most part. Moral codes in Hollywood were lame at the time and changed the ending, BUT IT'S STILL A GREAT FILM.) Anyway, I highly recommend it.

I REALLY NEED TO BE READING THIS BOOK, LIKE, RIGHT NOW. Unfortunately, Catch-22 and The Return of the King are taking stupid precedence. Madi, school is gonna be the actual death of me.

Question: do you think Max de Winter is sort of a douchebag? Because, I dunno, I feel like poor sweet young unnamed Mrs. DW II shouldn't have to deal with all that stress.

It is not! YOU ARE STRONGER THAN SCHOOL. THE POWER OF GAIUS COMPELS YOU.

Answer: ... yeah. In his defense though: WHAT THE FRAK, REBECCA.

Haha, at this VERY MOMENT I am reading an article that asserts that Rebecca was actually fairly okay and Maxim just went all crazy and Othello on her ass! Entitled "Rebecca as Desdemona: A Maid that Paragon Description and Wild Fame." I do not know that I actually buy this, but it's a fun read!

But, yeah, Maxim is so rocking the Byronic hero thing, and, much like with that freak Rochester, it kinda just makes me feel like, 'Really, heroine? Come on! You could do so much better than this mean old weirdo!' But at least Max is foxy.

It's entirely possible that Maxim lost it- but I am more inclined to believe that Rebecca was doing something extra super depraved and evil.

Maxim is totally foxy as hale. Yum.

I loved that novel as well, although I never really saw what the big deal was with Maxim de Winter. He was so distant and cold all the time and just let the poor young thing rattle around in that big old manor house by herself.

I think he was a typical male of that time. However, whereas his first wife- and most women- had friends and family and people to hang out with, the second Mrs De Winter had no one. Plus, I think he really loved her.
