Hey!! I almost went with the winged victory, too!!! Seriously, that thing is ridiculous. Look at the wind. And her abs. How can anything be that perfect? Whenever I went to the Louvre in Paris, I just wanted to stand on the staircase where the Victory is for hours. I even still remember the first time I saw a picture of it, in an art history textbook in senior year of high school. I turned the page and was confronted with that and I sort of froze, and stared, and wondered how in the world something so beautiful could exist, and how a headless woman could be so beautiful.
I know I first saw it when I was a kid in one of my French textbooks, and it's always stuck with me. When I went to Paris and saw it at the top of the Daru staircase, I was blown away. I almost used my picture from the Louvre, but this one was infinitely better. It is such a powerful, striking image- you want to know more about it, due to its mystery and beauty. I was between this and a few paintings, but this one won.
