Nov. 19th, 2005 08:03 pmI spent all day at my cousin Janelle's baby shower. It was so, so exceedingly lame. There was absolutely going on- we sat around and talked, and then we ate, and then we left. No games. No gift-opening. No nothing.
The worst part was that we haven't seen these relatives since Sonia's funeral in March, and suddenly everyone's either married, engaged, or pregnant. Or, in Barbie's case, she HAD A BABY and is HAVING ANOTHER BABY in like, two weeks. Danielle got married in a civil ceremony but is actually getting married next November; my Madrina is engaged to be married this March, Natali, who turns 21 next week, to be married next October. We never see that family anymore, and it sucks.
There were five hundred babies there, and pregnant ladies. My... third cousins? My dad's cousin's daughters, so, his second, and my third, I guess, or something... they're twins, and one looks so much like Renée and the other one has a much softer face. I have some very pretty relatives, and some not so pretty relatives.
In short, we were there for three and a half hours and it was so ridiculously lame. And the food was bad. And we were embarrassingly out of the loop about our own family.
And now, for the reasons I love people.
Balthazar, for
yahtzee63
I didn't want to like Balthazar. Rather, when I learned there'd be new people coming I said to myself, awww, man, new people, but I was careful not to get crazy hateful on them, because I did on Nadia, and she's my favorite now and yeah. It was embarrassing.
And then Vaughn died, and they brought in this new guy. And I was a bit bitter, because I didn't want to be distracted from my missing Vaughn. No distracting Eye Candy!
Oh. Oh, but he was so distracting. And he wasn't brought to replace Vaughn exactly- he was completely different. He was kind of snarky and attractive, and, like Regina says- he's like a mini-Jack, in a way. And he's working his into the fold, and he works well with just about everyone.
And he's so multifunctional. He works with anyone (except for the pregnant lady, thankyouverymuch)- Renée, and Rachel (although, please? Keep her in the pregnant lady category- he's too much for her) and, especially, Nadia. Oh, what a lovely addition he would make to Nadia's life.
In short, in just a few episodes he was demonstrated that he's capable, intelligent, badass and he even has a bit of a softside. Helping Rachel spar, and goading her on so that she's actually do her thing? Oh, Balthazar, you prince.
Plus? His name is Thomas Grace, but he's played by Balthazar Getty... so he can be called Balthazar. Which automatically adds like, ten points in the badass column.

Will, for
non_horation
When I started to watch Alias, I came with a preconceived notion of who to like and who not to like. Will was on the annoying list. So I didn't like him.
It wasn't that I disliked him, it was that (A) he kinda wanted Syd for himself, and I was diehard SYva fan already and (B) He just kept getting into trouble.
Yes, Will was all, "Oh, woe, my nongirlfriend's boyfriend has been slain! Now I must pursue all leads presented to me, in spite of her protests! I will win the heart of the fair lady by endangering my life!"
And I know, Will's a reporter, and it's in his blood to go after the leads and follow the story but... but I was afraid that he'd go and get himself killed and then Syd would be sad again. All 36 hours I spent watching Season One was spent worrying over Syd being happy. So I was irritated by that.
But once that whole storyline was finished- oh, Will! He's so cute and funny and playful and loving and like, the best friend ever of all time. Once you look past the whole Will-baiting-death storylines of Season One, he loves Syd so much, and just wants her to be happy, and he has hysterical lines and is easy on the eyes, and even though he can be an ass, it's mostly for the love of Syd. And I'm down with that.
Now he lives in Wisconsin, fearlessly constructing buildings in below-zero weather armed with nothing but flannel. And I salute you, Will Tippin. I salute you.

Someone from Xena, for
xenaamber (surprise, surprise)
So I choose Joxer.
Joxer, essentially, is the Will of Xena. He's the sidekick and he's funny. The end.
But not. The thing about Joxer is his unshakeable... well, his unshakeable hope, I guess. He really believes that he could be Joxer the Mighty, worthy of the songs he composes; he really does think that someday, maybe, he might have a chance with Gabrielle. And even though he's a funny-looking guy who runs in the face of danger, he still thinks he has a chance. He's the original "I <3 Nerds" poster boy.
And he really does have a heart of gold. He even wound up dying to save Gabrielle. At least, I don't think I made that part up.

David, for
dollsome
David, David, David.
David's not my type at all. He flies in the face of authority, but not so much in a rebellious way as in a "but why you gotta do that, teach?" way. He's mostly play and little work, and he's pretty big on David, David, David.
But David Addison is a complex man. He's a man who still gets pains over certain cases, and isn't as heartless as he tries to make himself appear. He pretends he's a tough guy, not because he isn't one, but it is a front. He's not all dark glasses and a leather jacket. Nor is he all fun and games. David can get serious when he wants to, and he always pulls through when necessary.
He's honestly the sun of the show, too, because he's so bright and happy. And lord is the man polite! You've seen the way he flatters Miss Dipesto! As well she should be flattered. I wish someone had asked me about my love for Miss Dipesto.
Also? He is soooo cute with Maddie.

Mulder, for
agent_nica
There is no song professing love for Mulder. There is one for David Duchovny, and there is one for Dana Scully (!), but not one for Mulder.
And I don't know why. Because he's my favorite male FBI agent ever. Ever, for serious.
Had I been in a different frame of mind when I first watched XF, I might've hated Mulder. Because he could honestly be a complete and total jerk. And not a cute, "Gabrielle awoke with a jerk" Joxer jerk either. No, like, I am a big man and you're a wee little leprechaun, Dana.
But Mulder is also charming. And funny. And he's just so passionate about things. He was irreparably damaged by his sister's abduction and continues to chase the moon to try and save her, or others. He has so much faith in his beliefs that there are extraterrestrials that almost want to believe in it too, just so that he investing his heart and soul for nothing.
And because Mulder is so sensitive (not in a girly way,) you want things to work out with him in Dana- if he is capable of loving his sister so much, and for so long, at such a distance, then how much could he love Dana? How happy could he be if he stopped crying to the heavens that little green men were coming?
Because Mulder is so complex, and so wonderful... that is why I love him.
